About SmellyAcres

We decided to open our store to make available what we think are a unique collection of soap and hand lotion products. We hand mold each bar of soap ourself. The main molds we use are called a wave and a simple rectangle. They have what we think is a nicer look than other home made soaps that are molded into a large loaf and chopped into square blocks. Our bars are then shrink wraped individualy. Making them ideal as gifts. They have what we think is a very nice apearance. We plan to add special molds for certain holidays, and hopefully we will have gift baskets available soon.

Future products we would like to add include a Body Wash, Bath Salts and Loofah Soaps.

Currently we are not listed on Shopping.com, Shopzilla.com, or Yahoo!Shopping.com as we found out that each of these services charge 50 cents for every click to our web site. Hopefully in the future we will add these services but untill then we will rely on the "word of mouth" advertising and friends e-mailing each other. So if you like our products please feel free to E-mail our web address to your friends. We are working on getting into the google data system and hope to have it up soon. Until then you can find us by typing into the address bar and not into the search engine bar, so let your friends know this also. Thanks

We drove a semi truck interstate for the last 20 years together and last year we decided to make a change. We had enough of being gone for weeks at a time and this is something we have dreamed of doing so we decided just to go ahead and try it. We really have no computer experience so all of this is very new to us. When we "retired" ourselves we each had over 2,000,000 million miles of safe driving and more than 15 years consectutive accident incident free driving. Currently we have several mini animals on our "farm" which include Horses, Goats, Rabbits and a small Dog. That is the Smelly part. The Soaps and Lotions would then be the Smells So Good part. All of this is a work in progress and it looks like it will be for a while as we try to over come the learning curve associated with a venture of this kind. We will try to keep adding new things, either products or information about us or our products as  often as we can. Thanks for your patronage.

We read this article about an ingredient that is in some of the fragrances we offer and in trying to insure that our customers are informed consumers we thought we would pass it on. They are called "Phthalates".

What are phthalates?

Phthalates refers to a group of chemical compounds sometimes used if fragrances flavorings, and plastics. Diethyl phthalate (DEP) is used in fragrances to help blend fragrance ingredients and as a fixative to make fragrances last longer.

Are phthalates safe?

Some reports raise questions about the saftey of phthalates, however, much of the research on phthalateshas yet to be validated, and the specific chemicals of concern are not clearly identified in many of the reports. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel completed a review of DEP in 2002 and again in 2005, and concluded that DEP is safe for use in cosmetic products in the present practices of use and concentration levels. The CIR Expert Panel contains members from the US FDA, the Consumer Federation of America and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CFTA).

The European Comission's Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP), has independently confirmed that DEP is safe for use in cosmetics and represents no quantifiable risk for the consumer. The SCCP also found that none of the latest information on DEP would change its longstanding conclusion. The SCCP is the regulatory arm of the European Union comparable to the FDA.

Additionally, the Food and Drug Administration continues to evaluate anailable data on DEP and has not taken any action to restrict the use of DEP in fragrances.

How does the fragrance industry determine whether or not their ingredients such as DEP are safe?

The saftey of fragrance ingredients is a top priority for the fragrance industry. Fragrance material suppliers take substantial and effective product stewardship measures to assure the saftey of these products. New scientific data is constantly evaluated to ensure that the highest standards are applied to the creation of fragrances.
